Home Assistant YAML checker

Paste automations.yaml, scripts.yaml or configuration.yaml: we check the YAML syntax with line numbers and typical Home Assistant mistakes: unquoted templates, unquoted on/off, bad entity_ids, missing triggers, old service: and platform: syntax.

·

Everything runs in the browser; the file is not uploaded. !secret and !include are recognised but not resolved. Home Assistant has the final word: Developer tools → YAML → Check configuration.

The most common mistakes

The 2024 syntax

Since 2024.8 a service call is written action: instead of service:, and since 2024.10 triggers:, conditions:, actions: are plural and trigger: state replaces platform: state. The old form still works, so the checker marks it as a tip, not an error.

Errors from the Home Assistant log: Invalid config, Template variable warning. ESPHome configs: ESPHome generator.
